Dream Catcher

I made a dream catcher today, it's very easy; this is how I made mine.

You will need: a twig, hemp, beads, scissors and if desired; feathers, ribbons

first get a twig, I used one from a willow tree because they are very flexible, now bend it into a circle of your desired size.

next take your hemp and tie your twig in place. from there you wrap the twig in hemp all the way around so no twig is showing.
Now you loop the hemp around the inside of the circle making your way into the circle with your loops getting smaller. You can add bead or charms at any time or place.

finally you can use hemp, ribbon or any other material for the pieces that hang down. you can have just strips or braid them [whatever you prefer] you can continue adding beads or as I have done tie on feathers [ I found these feathers but you can buy packs of feathers that come in a variety of colors at craft stores]

and there you have your very own dream catcher

sweet dreams

Creative Outlet

I am now expressing my creativity through an art journal! The photo from my last post is not actuly done, I still need to do some journaling on the right page but I thought I'd share anyways. I hope to share most if not all my pages and when I have time I will post my previous pages. This is a great outlet for creativity and I highly recomend it, you don't have to be artistic or a fabulous writter, a journal is personal and should be for you, all you need to be able to do is express yourself. I might post a how-to for art journaling and put up some links aswell so stay tuned :)

innocent

I work with children every day all day. people say children are the innocent, the younger they are the more innocent they are. it's true they are innocent, but to what? the kids I work with are 4-6 and there is a fair share of crying each day because someone isn't sharing, they tripped and fell, someone pushed them, the list goes on. by this age they know everything isn't always fair, they know scrapped knees heal and they know that some people are nicer than others. if they already know the flaws in out world than how are they innocent? sure these are minor reflections of our society's problems but to a child little problems have the same impact as our big problems. so I ask again why do we view children as innocent?

35mm

Finished a role of film today :) oh and it was lovely weather to be out and about, I wore flip flops [YAY!] I have been steadily using up my film for about 2 months, so I will have winter and spring shots. Today I got some great pictures of my grandpa's old violin and case, I am really excited about how these will turn out- you'll understand if you read my post on violins. I was also very lucky to get a profile shot of my brother, I think it will look very striking. fingers crossed the film turns out well, I will hopefully process the role next week- I just need to find time to get to the dark room.

words

I made beads out of paper! I have a bunch of very old books I bought at a goodwill store for the sole purpose of crafting with them. I would put a how to thing up here but honestly there are already a ton on the web. I cut my strips of paper from the pages in a yellowed book so now my beads are very vintage awesome and wordy :) my next dilemma, what to do with the beads? and today I came up with a solution- put them in a hemp bracelet! I am very excited because it will look very cool. as soon as I'm done I will post pictures and maybe a bit of a description on how I did it.

sounds of violin

I have a complete obsession with violins, I think they are beautiful instruments. The sound to me is so raw and moving. I really like bands w/ unusual instruments [arcade fire] because it gives them such a unique sound and unsurprisingly i am drawn to bands who have a violin in their list of instruments [ horse feathers]. I personally have always wanted to learn the violin, my grandpa played for the majority of his life- i never heard him play and I wish I had. I have his violin now- of coarse i cant play it, it's very old so I think if I were to learn I would use a new one. I want to photograph the violin and its case because there is alot of wear i think it would capture it perfectly in black and white, film obviously. A friend and I were having a great conversations about bands and the sounds we like- we have different taste but definitely over lap sometimes so it's nice to discuss. we got on the topic of violins and she admitted to always wanting to play the cello and I the violin, we would produce fine music if we had any ambition :)

Fear

I wrote a satire about gingers, now don't starting hating, I my self am a ginger so I have every right to make fun of my self, it's also a satire- which means I am making fun of people who make fun of gingers. now I thoroughly enjoyed writing this satire and I would love to share it on my blog, the thing is I'm always been a little Leary of publishing my work online for fear of it being stolen. I don't have any plans of officially publishing/copyrighting my work it's just the empty feeling of something being stolen, and then really how would I know it's safe. I guess the one good thing is my blog is not well known, or rather it's hardly known at all. have you ever had a fear of this? or a situation regarding said issue of blogger's? please enlighten me.

Flow

I'm very into life being chill. I like to take life as it comes, just let things happen. I make plans vague for the purpose of unexpected enjoyment, and when plans fall through it's not as upsetting. I don't want you to get the wrong impression though, I am not someone who just doesn't care about anything. on the contrary I care significantly for everything in my life. I am simply not afraid of change, I embrace it, and I accept when life doesn't go as well as I hoped. I was not always like this, I definitely learned as I went and worked at becoming the person I wanted to be. I don't mean to say I wanted to be successfully so I worked at it and made it happen. I mean if you take away material objects, and the lives we've nestled our selves into, if all we had was our personalities, views on life, and overall nature, would you be happy with who you are. I am not there yet to say I am completely content with my self but I definitely feel I've started with the right sense. if you are not happy with your self you will never be happy with anything or anyone.

Forever Along

January was a crazy month
I am really glad to be back blogging
I can not wait for spring! It's my favorite season and this winter has been so long
of coarse with spring comes summer and with summer comes road trips. This July a couple friends and I are planning on hopping on a train and heading to Quebec, not sure how long we'll stay, probably a week or so. As far as planning goes we are limiting ourselves to train tickets and hotel rooms so the rest shall be spontaneous. What a trip with friends should be :)
